I am not quite certain what the proper protocol is for reaching out to you as members of the Howard County Board of Education. However I believe that it is now past the point of no return where I have no other choice. My daughter…has been subjected to constant harassment by….and her parents during both school and after school hours. This harassment has consisted of touching my daughter in sexually inappropriate places, calling her derogatory terms, physically assaulting her, and filing falsified complaints and reports on my daughter. I took subsequent action to notify the following both prior to and during the course of the academic year:
- Laurel Marsh, Principal and Daniel Notari, Assistant Principal on 18 August 2015 and 19 August 2015
- St John’s Parrish YMCA Program Director at the YMCA on 18 August 2015
- Crystal Brown, Community Manager on 20 August 2015 and 9 September 2015.
- Jacqueline Wright-Brown, Case Management Specialist, Howard County Department of Juvenile Services on 9 September 2015
While I believe Ms. Marsh and Mr. Notari are doing the best that they know how, I do not believe it’s enough as….has continued to harass and intimidate my daughter. The effects of her and her families actions have and are having a negative impact on my disability status and my daughters academic pursuits. Hence I feel as if I have no other choice at this time but to escalate things by making you aware of what’s been going on. With everything being said and done, I believe the optimum solution would be to allow my daughter to transfer to the school of my choice…so as she can re-focus on her education as opposed to trying to avoid being bullied.
Another point of mention is that I reached out to Ms. Marsh, Mr. Notari, and Lori Jenner on 5 October keeping in mind that October was anti-bullying month. I sent them some information on an anti-bullying and self esteem building song that this man put together. The hook read(s), “I’m beautiful, I’m worthy, And those mean words, Can’t hurt me, I’m priceless, I’m smart, And I love myself, I’m focused on my health.” I shared it with them in hopes that they would take note, take a listen, and consider incorporating it or some semblance thereof within the curriculum. Nevertheless my email went largely unnoticed as I received no follow-up or response in that regard.
While I cannot say with 100% certainty, perhaps this is the reason that my daughter [and others] are being bullied at…. Whatever it is, it must stop if our true goal is to ensure quality education for our children. Hence I am reaching out to each one of you in hopes that you can help have my daughter reassigned to….and also improve relations at….
I am available and would welcome the opportunity to discuss these matters in person if you so choose. Thank you kindly.
